For the first time, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s family has come out to speak about her condition, after she was diagnosed with the novel COVID-19.
In a message delivered by Bishop Wanjiru’s son Evans Kariuki, the family confirms that the former Starehe MP was diagnosed with the virus and that she is recovering well.
“We thank everyone for the thousands of prayers that we have received. The Bishop is now recovering fast,” says Rev. Evans Kariuki.
Evans further reveals that Bishop Wanjiru was taken to the ICU with low blood oxygen levels and unable to breathe.
The Jesus Is Alive Ministries bishop was hospitalized on Thursday at a Nairobi hospital where she was admitted to ICU.
According to Rev. Kariuki, the media reports that Bishop Wanjiru hosted people in her house for an overnight prayer meeting were unfounded and malicious.
“We are men and women of prayer, and we are not ashamed of it. But we would not do anything to contradict the laws that the government has put in place.”
“I would like to make it clear that our family, led by my brother Hon. Kariuki led efforts to trace the said 18 people who were quarantined,” says Rev. Evans.
DP Ruto was among the several leaders who sent encouraging messages to the family, saying that the ministry of health is doing all it can to flatten the virus curve.
“We stand with those being treated. Quick recovery gallant soldier of the Lord Bishop Wanjiru,” Ruto tweeted on Sunday.
