The Makueni Boys High School administration has suspended 258 students for two weeks following a night of rioting at the institution.
The candidates went on rampage on Friday night protesting the compulsory, monthly haircuts by the school.
The school has a population of more than 1,000 students, many of whom are ardent followers of ‘Prophet’ Owuor.
According to Benson Mutava, a student, beards and hair are a source of strength and wisdom, especially during tough times like tests and warfare.
“The Mightiest Prophet is in the land. You remember what happened to Samson. There is power in long beards and hair,” says Benson.
Having watched too many Videos showcasing Owuor’s powerful beards during the COVID lockdown season, the boys now say they need their hair and beards intact to pass with flying colors.
Confirming the dramatic incident, the school principal Raphael Katana says that the students – some who were keeping a full Owuor-like beard and head full of hair – refused to get their haircuts as required.
When the school insisted on the haircuts, the students became rowdy, prompting the management to send them home on a two weeks suspension.
“Our students are supposed to shave every month. But the candidates refused to adhere, as per the Ministry of Education guidelines. We sent all of them home because they became rowdy,” says Mr. Katana.
Investigations into the matter have commenced.
